Gretsch white falcon6/13/2023 ![]() ![]() If anyone is interested in the Phoenix drop me a line. If I can get what I need out of it I'll sell it, but I'm not desperate so if I can't get a fair price I'll just hang on to it until I can afford a Falcon. So, I've listed my Phoenix in the classified section of this Forum, and locally. There are only 2 along the way that I truly regret selling. There may come a day when I regret parting with the Phoenix, but I'm pretty philosophical about the coming and going of guitars. I'll either own one or the other, and right now I'm thinking the Falcon is where I want to put my money. I can't, however, justify having 2 "crown jewel" guitars, i.e., both the Phoenix and the Falcon. I eventually hope to also add a smoke green 6118 Anniversary. Currently, I've got 3 Teles, a SG, a few acoustics, and 3 Gretschs - the Phoenix, a 6120-1960, and a Silver Jet. All things being equal, I'm all in favour of keeping every guitar I ever acquire, but realistically, I can't justify doing so. Weve been notified and are looking into it. The general sentiment here seems to be, "Have your cake and eat it too", i.e., save your pennies, buy the Falcon, keep the Phoenix. Gretsch G6136-1958 Stephen Stills White Falcon Reverb Oops, Something went wrong. The feedback is much appreciated people, thank you. Would anyone care to talk me out of it? Or talk me into it? Or better yet, offer to trade me your Falcon for my Phoenix? But I think I need to own a Falcon, a White one, and I can't justify having both the Phoenix and Falcon, especially in addition to my other guitars. I have chronic GAS and I'm always chasing the next shiny thing. And, I'm a little wary because I know what I'm like. And, it has nostalgic value - I bought it after I had quit smoking cigarettes for a year (it's now been 5). The Phoenix is an amazing instrument - the sounds, the look, the TV Jones pups - amazing. The White Falcon is also a precious guitar, but it won't show every nick and ding. It shows all dust, and every fingerprint, and I live in fear of scratches and swirls. Conceived as a one-off dream by master Gretsch designer Jimmie Webster, the White Falcon became a flagship hollow body for the company's roster and one of the models most closely associated with the hot, pure tone of Filter'Tron and TV Jones pickups. modern distinction, and I feel kind of petty for saying it, but as fantastic as that Black Phoenix looks (and plays), I don't like owning a black guitar. I've learned this over the last few years - if given the choice between the classic version of a guitar (e.g., 52 Reissue Tele) and a modern version (e.g., American Deluxe Tele), I should always choose the classic version, because I will continue to long for it if I don't buy it. Now, 4 years later, I find myself still pining for a White Falcon. When I bought it, I was hunting for a White Falcon, but I fell in love with the Phoenix - particularly the neck. Long story short, I own a 2011 Black Phoenix. ![]()
